I am planning on taking AP Chemistry next year as a sophomore and will be concurrently enrolled in Pre-Calc. Will I have the necessary math skills to be successful in AP Chem?

I’m taking precalc and AP chem right now so I can say that yes, you will have enough math skills

Do you need to be good at math or will you just have to memorize equations??

Its elementary Algebra skills. Nothing complicated or hard. Its figuring out what to do with the numbers that are presented that is the real problem.

You’re fine. The hard part is not the math.

It really is just algebra…I wouldn’t say elementary, but know your algebra.

Ain’t that the truth.

8

10char

Yeah, basic algebra at most. Definitely more math than Bio, but still less complex math than even Physics B.

Took pre-calc when I was doing AP. It’s really just basic algebra. You take logs and stuff, but don’t necessarily need to know how they work…

The hard part of AP chem, for me at least, was memorization.

@DHill AP Chemistry isn’t completely memorization, it’s more logical thinking and problem solving skills. Like stated above, the math isn’t hard it’s the concepts and how the equations ties in.

Thanks for all the replies!
