How Much Money will I need for Berkeley BEFORE the FA Shows up???

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how paying for Berkeley works. When do I need to start paying them? Will there be anything I need to pay for UP FRONT, as in right now?? I haven't filled my housing application out yet. Will I need to deposit any money to reserve my spot in whatever building I get into after they announce living arrangements? If so, how much will I need?

Or will all this get charged to our "berkeley account" that I heard about?? I'm confused. Please help me, I need to figure how much money I need.

Hey solid. You should or might have been awarded a sum of money from a pell grant, cal grant, and/or a berkeley scholarship. To make sure your reaching the 13k budget per semester they might have issued you a couple loans that you can choose to accept. I wouldn’t accept any unsubsidized loan if you don’t have to because the interest might be high. Subsidized loans have interest that is paid by the government until you graduate or fall below being a full time student.

I think we get a UC Berkeley bank account or something called EFT. “Electronic Funds Transfer”. I am assuming that when we register our classes they will take these funds out of that account but I could be wrong.

As for housing app deposits I think those are supposed to be paid up front with your own money, that is until your reimbursed with your financial aid.

What’s your net cost if you don’t mind me asking? Mines around 5k :(

aw, paying right up front and then getting reimbursed saddens me. So rahrah, you’ll have to pay 5k as your housing deposit…?

jyi nope that what I have to make up for in loans for everything from class registration fees to books to housing. I think you only have to pay an application fee, which shouldn’t be a lot of money…At least not 5k :)

oh okay thanks :)
