How much of a chance do you think I have?

Hi,
I’m a high school senior. I recently just submitted my applications to a lot of colleges, and before decisions come out, I wanted to see if anyone could give me advice, or help chance me. If you are willing, could you please leave your phone number or social media link or CC username so that I could contact you?

For those who do not want to provide personal information like a phone number, I would greatly appreciate if you could try to chance me at the best of your ability regarding the information I listed:

I have a GPA of a rough 4.6 weighted, and a 3.8 unweighted. My school’s GPA is based on grades 10-12. I have taken 14 AP courses for my high school, and have taken 10 AP tests, and have passed 7 AP tests with a 5 and 2 AP tests with a 4, and 1 with a 3. I did get a rough 2 C’s in my sophomore year, getting a C in AP Euro and AP Chemistry. My junior year I passed with a 4.0, and got an A on all of my classes, and all 6 on all of my AP courses. I took online courses for a few AP courses as well, and passed those with an A in the summer of junior-senior year. I got a 1540 on my SAT, and I took 4 SAT subject tests, and scored 720, 760, 780, and 780 respectively. This is a rough overview of my academic status.

I am a competitive fencer, nationally ranked, and I am on the rolling point list. I am looking to be recruited via NCAA Division 1 for some schools, but I am applying to some top schools which do not have fencing, such as USC, which is my top school. I am the President/Co-Founder of two clubs for two years. Those clubs were 1) a congressional club and 2) a political club. I have been a director for an organization that has opened its doors worldwide, which helps foster kids gain the same educational access. I have been a director for one more club, which is a non-profit online peer tutoring organization that I was part of the founding team of. I have interned for an US House Representative/2020 Candidate, and interned at a county court my junior year (before COVID). This is a rough overview of my extracurricular status.

Essay-wise, I think I wrote a decent college admissions writing piece, but I am so worried about it…you can never be sure 0_0. I am riddled with nervousness and worry, and hopefully I have a good enough chance of at least getting into USC once I submit my application. I messed up my freshman and sophomore year, but I genuinely pray that my junior and senior year semester could make up for it AHHH im losing my entire mind…

I hope you could find the time to tell me how you think my chances are at least!

Thanks

I’m not an expert, but looking at [USC’s admissions stats](https://www.collegeconfidential.com/schools/school/university-of-southern-california/admissions), it looks like you are pretty close by unweighted GPA and better than average SAT. Your extracurriculars are impressive and you seem to be a good writer. Still, USC’s acceptance rate is 11%, so 9 in 10 applicants will be rejected. Realistically, you’ll want to be prepared for rejection.

On the other hand, since you submitted a lot of applications, your chances are good to get into one of your schools. As always, it pays to look at the entire package. USC is a good choice for many people, but you’ll want to consider the cost (after grants, but before loans that will be paid back) too. Depending on what you want to study, other schools might have been programs. One of the great attractions of USC, it’s campus, is currently restricted due to COVID concerns. I guess I’m saying not getting admitted isn’t the worst thing to happen.

If you are being recruited, you should have a good idea of your chances, no? Are you in communication with any coaches? Have they agreed to push your candidacy with admissions? Have you gotten any pre- reads?

You seem to be a strong candidate for a lot of schools. Excessive nerves may be a signal you need a firmer backup school, but as you didn’t list everywhere you are applying, it is difficult to say for sure.

Congratulations on your achievements so far.

Agree on the recruiting comment above, where do you stand on that?

I can’t chance you, but have you applied to at least on affordable safety school? Are the rest of the schools on your affordable, should you be accepted?

Hi! This is Lillian from Prompt. You’ve got a great variety of extracurriculars. And your grades and test scores look great! As for your freshman and sophomore year, it might be worthwhile to write the “Additional Information” essay on the common app. This is a great place to discuss the positive steps you took to improve your junior and senior years.

I’m interested to learn more about how you approached your college essays given that USC has several supplemental essays. Those should all work together to present a compelling personal brand.
