I am making this thread to compare myself financially with others at my age. Upon answering, it would be very helpful if could also answer these questions

Are you on financial aid? If not, are you or your parents paying the tuition? (indicate if you are part-time)

Are you studying abroad? If so, are you or your parents paying for rent/food? (indicate if you are International student)

What is your major?

Do you own "expensive" acessories compared with others? Ex. Does your laptop cost more than $1000? Does your phone cost more than $200? If you own Apple products, please indicate.

When you purchase material goods for yourself, do you use your own money?

How old are you?

Thank you for answering. I look forward to your feedbacks.

I do have financial. About 1/2 of my college costs is covered - give or take a little. My parents completely cover the rest. No loans.

I may be studying abroad during the spring semester of my sophomore year. My parents would be paying for it, I think.

Communications.

I own a Macbook Pro ($1300) which is an Apple product. My phone is three years old and I don’t own any iPods/iPhones… so I don’t live too lavishly.

I do if I’m by myself. If I’m with my parents, they 75% of the time offer to pay. Nowadays, however, they’ve let me buy what I want.

I’m 19.

… I thought you had questions about savings?

Well, I was just basing it off of the answers people did lol. Reading is hard. But, if you’re wanting people to answer questions like this, then I suggest doing so yourself.

Is that directed at me? I don’t care whether or not people answer this. I meant I’m entertained that this is being asked at all, especially in such a format.

I have enough to cover my expenses for 11 months if I were to stop working. That’s how you should measure savings anyway. Not in dollar figures.

No need for apologies I completely missed the question in the post the first time I read the it myself… and I’m on a computer.

Only really chiming in again to mention that I agree that your savings measurement by monthly expenses is a rather smart way of looking at life.

No, parents are paying all.

Not planning on it.

Finance, but that could change.

Cheap PC laptop. I see no point in blowing $1400 on something most people only need for web browsing and notes.
iPhone however, so yeah…

Nope.

I turn 18 next week.

I have very little in savings. I don’t have a job so all the money I get is basically just for living expenses from my parents and a bit of money on the side so I can have some fun.

1) No, not on fin aid. My dad is paying.

2) No

3) Information Systems and Supply Chain Management

4) Yes I own a MacBook Pro, next laptop will probably be a bit over $1,000 unless I decide to go Windows. My phone was $200.

5) Technically it’s mine, but it comes from allowance.

6) 20, turning 21 in a bit over a month.

e: Reading this thread makes me feel like an entitled ****. I should get a job.

Yes, large merit scholarship (more than half the Cost of Attendance) and parents are paying the rest (but they may need to take out a small loan for the 4th year though (didnt qualify for need based aid unfortunately).

No.

Biomedical Engineering (Pre med track though)

Bought the official school labtop ($~1500) with all pre downloaded software, etc. Iphone 4. Thats it.

Yes. I had a paid job for the past 2 years though. I’m going to use my savings for college until I get a part time job, if I have time.

17, turn 18 in about a month.

Yes, full financial aid with full Pell Grant and some loans. Parents have put a penny towards my education.

No.

Psychology and Anthropology.

No, I have my dad’s old laptop and an old knock-off phone that’s about 6 years old.

No, because I never buy anything. I’ve not bought an item of clothing or anything for probably two years. Usually when I get stuff, it’s for my birthday but usually my birthday gift is my family pooling our money to get the gas to take me back to school. If I want other things, I use my own money but I rarely have money. This year I’ll be working but my check will go all to rent and then a small amount for groceries.

21

I have enough saved to avoid taking out loans this school year.

I’m on mostly merit aid and a bit of financial based. This covers my tuition entirely, and I’ll get a refund to partially cover housing.

No

Chemical engineering

I have a MacBook Pro that I bought myself with my graduation party money. I have an iPhone. I own a few lavish things that I got on a huge discount at the outlet mall.

It depends. My parents buy most of my stuff over the summer, but I buy my own while at school.

I’m 19.

Yes, I’m on financial aid. My parents aren’t paying for anything (full ride).

I plan on studying abroad my junior year. The school would cover it.

Computer Science and Mathematics

My laptop cost $365. My phone cost $40. The most expensive thing I owned was a scooter, which I sold to buy myself a laptop for college.

Yes. My parents will sometimes send me money, but nothing significant.

18
