How much say do your parents have in your life?

My parents spend all their time making sure my younger siblings are doing everything they’re supposed to. My brother doesn’t do this homework, so they spend a lot of time making sure he does. My sister has become quite the little rebel in the past year, so they have to deal with her a lot. I’m not perfect, but I work hard enough in school and I generally do everything they tell me to, which isn’t much, so they trust me and basically let me do anything I want. The latest I can be out is 11:30, but that’s because there’s an issue with my driver’s license–we don’t know if it’s unrestricted now or not, because I totaled a car earlier this year, but didn’t receive a ticket or anything. They pay for everything, but they do expect me to get a job before or during college to support myself (but only for things like going out on weekends). They’re very encouraging about the college application process, insisting that we figure out the money issue when I know where I’m in.

Overall, I’m lucky. I have a strong relationship with my parents, but I’m also independent from them. I’m not afraid to do things on my own.
