I’m looking at the costs for RPI and it is significantly higher than the other colleges I am applying too, so I assume the scholarship is a bit more. Here are my stats: (Engineering & CS btw)
GPA: 3.9 (W) Will increase this year due to APs
SAT: 1440 (780 M if that helps with Engineering)
APs:
Calc BC
Calc AB (5)
Comp Sci
Comp Sci Principles (5)
Enviro
My school ran out of room for AP Physics, so I took Honors Physics
EC:
iSTEM Club
Graphics Design Club
Video Game Design Club
TV Broadcast Club
Volunteer:
150+ hours at a hospital
Work:
2 summer internships at small tech firms
internship through school at insurance company
Other:
Asian
Family Income 100k+
My GPA went from 3.6 freshman year to 3.9 sophomore to 4.3 junior if that helps
My first question is, will i get in with these stats? Second is, how much scholarship can I expect to get? I also heard applying early gives more scholarships and merit. I’m sorta new to all this, so any help would be appreciated.
As I told you in a message (and I’ll share so other people can know) all domestic students are considered for merit and need-based scholarships automatically upon being admitted to RPI. Virtually (99%+) all domestic students that enroll at RPI get need or merit-based aid or scholarships so you’ll more than likely not be paying full price. Some exceptional international students are also given endowed scholarships by RPI, but the vast majority of international students pay full price.
Also, for most private and out-of-state universities of similar ranking RPI is likely going to be a similar price given the tuition discounts that they give out to entice students to enroll. Deciding whether you will apply should also not really be about cost, since I’d say there’s always a chance you might get a good scholarship. Regardless, apply and see what happens! Best of luck.
For Engineering you have a good shot, for CS it is slightly harder but with your stats I’d say you have a good shot as well. It is very important that you sign up for a visit to show interest and with regard to grants and scholarships I can say I got a very generous amount and my stats were not as good as yours. No one can tell you with absolute certainty that you will get accepted or denied, nor how much financial aid you’ll get but I would be very confident in saying that RPI would be more generous in their aid to you than with me since yours stats are better. Best of luck.
