How much should I charge for tutoring?

I tutor junior high age students and was wondering what the normal price range for a college student to charge is? Is 20/hr too much?
Thanks!

In this economy, be prepared to bump it down to ten. Also, do not take cheques or PayPal; don’t be making paper trails unless you want to pay tax.

The fee you are charging is very reasonable for a college student, although I guess it depends on your region.

^The region is upper middle class society in Southern California.

^If you’re certified you can charge 30-40 an hour in a regular economy, you could probably bump it down to $20-30 cause of the economy, you’re already charging $20, that’s not steep at all. I wanted to tutor earlier this year and last year and looked into this stuff.

I am not certified at all. I just have a lot of tutoring experience.

I always charged around 20, but if it was multiple students studying together, I could give them a break (if two students, the charge was 10 or 15 each instead of 20 each or something like that). It got me more students and money and gave them discounts. Works for me.

An excellent tutor in an high middle to upper class area can ask $70 or more an hour. The fact that you are a college student I would consider asking $35 and see the reaction you get. What year are you in?

where I come from, you get paid $8/hr as an undergrad and $12 if you’re a grad. Dam that’s insane.

I am a first semester sophomore student. I don’t think I can ask for over $25.
