I am not sure how much tips should I leave after eating. The common rule is 15% for a meal, or maybe 20% if the waiter was good. If I eat a meal that cost about $9, then the tip should be about $2, right? Does that seem a little low? I tend to think that leaving 3-5 bucks for a $10 meal is probably enough.

I tip about 15%. $2 for a $9 meal is on the higher end for a tip in my opinion at around 22%. $3 for a $10 meal is 30%, which is high for me, but 50% for a tip ($5 tip for a $10 meal) seems ridiculous. Remember that if you are out with friends at a restaurant, everyone else is probably tipping on their own bills as well. My friends and I tend to round up when we tip on our own bills, so when you put it all together, it adds up to a decent amount.

So are you’re numbers enough? Definitely. I’d say it’s verging on too high. Try keeping up those percentages when you have to give the tip for bigger meals, like if you are paying for your family or for friends (are you really going to tip 25 bucks for a $50 meal?).

keep it around 20%, try to not go lower than 18, the worst servers get 15%, great ones get 25% if they did something really special. I’ve never been in a service industry but ask anyone who worked in the service industry and below 15% is very hard to justify. I say around 20% because I try to get even dollar amounts on bills for personal reasons so i will round up/down as long as it is around 18%-22%

I have a three dollar minimum tip, even on a six dollar bill. Otherwise, I do 15 to 20 percent. If it’s a slow night, I might be extra generous.

I went to a Japanese restaurant today and ate a bowl of Shoyu Ramen. The waitress gave me free cold water and ice cream, so I only had to pay for the noddle. It cost $7.53 with tax included. I put 10 bucks in the tray, ($5 dollar bill and five $1 dollar bill) and left while she wasn’t present.
I think that was good enough, right?

And by the way, is it okay to use quarters or coins when you pay? The last time I ate, I put in four quarter coins as a part of my tip.
