How much weight does high school transcripts hold in junior transfer? I would like to go to Stony Brook university for my first two years and then transfer into Cornell Human Ecology ? How much weight does the high school transcript hold for a junior transfer into Cornell Univeristy? Im a NYS resident.

It is irrelevant to transferring from junior college.

Im going to transfer as a junior . So why does Cornell ask for an official high school transcript for transfer students? @DickCheney

Junior in college correct?

I wouldn’t say that it holds no weight at all, or that it’s completely irrelevant. Some schools, especially top schools, are going to consider it. If two candidates are equally matched in terms of their college performance, but one of them has a drastically better high school record…which one do you think is going to get chosen?

Your high school record isn’t going to carry a whole lot of weight. Your college performance is going to be of much more interest to them because it’s more recent, and because it demonstrates how you’ve done in the lower level courses of your major. If you’re been a consistently good student (throughout both high school and college), it makes you more appealing in some respects.

But there are plenty of students who have had poor high school performance, then done very well in community college and transferred to excellent schools to finish their undergrad.

The student who improved however can spin that off as “vast self improvement” so I feel it’s actually easier to fabricate a story with it for your own benefit.

Cornell requires high school records for all transfer applicants, so presumably they matter for all transfer applicants, though probably less for those with more college course work completed.

Stony Brook only requires high school records for transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 24 credits at the time of application. For most students, this means that high school records are not needed and not considered for junior-level transfer applicants, but do matter for sophomore-level transfer applicants who are not in a gap year after completing frosh year.
