Back in August before this senior year, accidentally sent an insulting e-mail to a teacher and was suspended two days. My counselor addressed it in her letter, stating that there’s no character concerns and that it was just a small screw up. I’ve typed up an explanation of what happened and the lessons I’ve learned since, taking full responsibility. This is my only black eye in terms of applications. I’m applying to the top schools like Harvard Yale Princeton Chicago Columbia and Duke. Will this affect my chances and if so, how much?
Forgot to mention that I’m also a Latino male if that has anything to do with this
If you have the grades/SAT to get into those schools, then no, I don’t think it will affect your chances.
I would spend more time on figuring out match/safety schools though.
It shouldn’t be detrimental, but it won’t look good compared to the others who never had a screw up.
