Will suspensions affect my chance of admission into Ivy Leagues or any college in general?

I’m a high school freshman, class of 2022. I recently got a 3 day suspension because the Principal of our school caught my friend and I juuling. I’m just worried if this is going to change my chance of getting into my dream school (Columbia). This is my first change to my clean record in my whole school career, I know that I was stupid and have the rest of high school to make up for it. How much will this affect me? I’m just wondering

If you stay out of trouble, it’s likely to be of little consequence given the offense and that it happened freshman year.

If you have further disciplinary events and/or if this followed several less severe infractions, it shows a pattern. One which most colleges would happily avoid.

Stay out of trouble!

If you learn from this, it won’t

@gardenstategal said it perfectly. Stay squeaky clean the rest of high school and you will be okay. You will have to report this on applications, but if you include a mea culpa and prove you learned your lesson by keeping a clean record from now forward, then you will still have a chance.

And when you report it on your application don’t say “because the principal caught us”. Show accountability and say you were breaking campus rules on juuling.
