So I do a really unique EC that I'm sure not many kids in the country do (since its not really a kid thing, and also because opportunities are very limited for this EC).

In addition, I spent a ton of time on it (and I mean a ton*, even though it is a volunteer position, it is like work to me, i.e. 5+ hrs a day, few days a week, and even more during the summer). I started this Junior year (kinda late..because again, its not a kid thing)

Make no mistake, I love this EC, and I do it because I genuinely like the work and don't get tired of it.

But I want to know if something like this (which I genuinely care about) will make me stand out and will help me if I apply to the top Ivy (look at my username).

The Awesomely Unique EC is just a small part of your application. You cannot expect to ride its coat tails into an Ivy without having the gpa, APs, SATs, LORs,awards, blah, blah, blah to complete the profile the schools are looking for in a student. If it turns out your Awesomely Unique EC is not, then you will have over estimated its power to open doors for you. Plus you’ve only done it one year.

Maybe, if you have the stats and a great application too. The problem most face is the adcom don’t see something as being as special as they do, but there are those who truly do something exceptional, and if you’re one it will help.
