So basically, my resume is not up to Duke standards (3.88UW, 4.47W, 34 ACT, relatively weak EC's and awards, pretty good work experience), but I really want to go there. My aunt is REALLY high up at Duke; she's the director of the entire education program. I was just wondering if she could be a hook for me. Could she write a recommendation for me or somehow pull some strings, or would that be a conflict of interest?

Gee, I don’t know.
Why don’t you try asking someone really high up at Duke that question?
Like, perhaps your Aunt.

lol what. seriously?

Trust me, it’s not. [insert shameless plug for chance thread] http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1654818-chance-for-duke-unc-nc-state-honors-college-will-chance-back.html#latest

It should not help at all

My uncle is Senior Vice President of Duke but I don’t know if he can pull any strings for me.

It shouldn’t but it might

I’m not sure director of education is really even that high up… It’s not like where talking about Dean of Admissions or Vice President. That is “really high up”

Unless your aunt adopts you, then donates a $60 million new science bldg, she’s not a hook.

Your academics are up to standard, but from previous threads your ECs are weak. Ask your aunt… How would we know?
