(not entirely familiar with CC, I apologize if I posted this to the wrong topic)
I have tried looking into this on my own, but I have seen/heard a lot of conflicting information. I’m a high school senior planning on attending community college next year, my dream school being UCSD. I have struggled with various mental illnesses throughout the majority of high school, and my grades have suffered greatly. I have made a strong improvement as I have recovered, sophomore year I did not earn one grade above a C, last semester (first sem of senior year) I took all AP classes and earned straight A’s. This current semester, however, I have been extremely busy with extracurriculars and family matters, and as a result I have 3 B’s at the moment. I think that I will be able to pull my grades up, but it would require a lot of time and energy and I’m not sure if it’d be worth going to the trouble to do so. The problem is, getting any grade below an A will ruin my upward trend and I’m not sure how bad that would look, as overcoming mental illness has been a huge milestone in my life and I was planning on writing one of my personal statements on it. I know that UCSD is a selective school and I don’t want to risk ruining my chances, but I also want to be able to have the time to enjoy my last semester of high school.
Your high school grades don’t matter in any way. You could get straight D’s or C’s and you would be fine. You could not graduate and get a GED and it would be fine. Once you start community college your HS grades are considered irrelevant.
