I'm a freshman at the moment, and by the time I graduate I will have quite a good amount of volunteer work. My family does fairly well financially, and I don't drive too much other than school, which my parents pay for, so I am not in dire need of a job. During the summer I have basketball workouts all of June, and summer programs, reading, and AP homework for all of July, so managing a job along with volunteer work doesn't seem possible. The volunteer work I do is important to me, and although it looks good on a resume, that is not why I'm doing it. I know colleges like to see work experience, but will not having a job hurt me that much, even though I will already have work experience with volunteering? Thanks.

I think it’s definitely not a problem at all. Plus, you say you’re a freshman, right? So you could still get a job later on, if you want to. You love your volunteer work and are busy; I don’t see how it could be negative.

I heard that Harvard requires at least 40 hours of job experience. More hours would be preferable.

You seem busy enough already. Having a job on top of all that would probably cause your grades to suffer which (I’d imagine) is worse than not having some job experience.

I’m pretty sure colleges will like the fact that you love volunteering over some job you don’t like at all.

a job isn’t a requirement for college. choose ECs which best suite you. it could be a job, but doesn’t have to be

also OP, I hope you can hear the sarcasm in some of the prior posts
