From my own experience, AP chem homework was given every single night, and there were usually a fair amount of questions given… so although it may not have been terribly difficult all the time, it was time consuming. For APUSH my teacher assigned us VERY little work (we probably had five tests all year…). And I am taking AP bio and there is a consistent flow of work. Most of the time it is not overwhelming, but sometimes it can be, like when an 8 page lab report is due or something.

Like everyone else is saying, it completely deoends on your school and teacher. Ask your upper classmen friends to give you feedback on the teachers at your school teaching those courses! They can probably give you tips to survive and do well also :)

I am taking AP Bio and Honors Chem. For AP Bio I have an A-. For honors chem I have a high A. But then again we don’t get much homework and we have tons of time to study.

I’m currently taking AP Bio.
It’s definitely a lot of work and reading every night. I’m sure that taking AP Bio and APUSH would be fine, but adding AP chem to top it all off is a little much. However, if you believe that you could do it, go for it. It’s an impressive load.

It depends on the teacher. But I have AP chem this year and I don’t find it that difficult but it is a little stressful at times and my teacher assigns quite a bit of work to do but she makes it manageable because we don’t have to do completely ALL of the work she assigns. We have a rule that is we only do 45 min of chemistry a night. So it depends on the teacher. But if you do take chem there are some videos that might help. Just type in AP chem wiki and there is a whole wiki with info and videos and notes for it. It’s really helpful.
I don’t have APUSH but we just got a new teacher for it and people have been saying that it is hard because he doesn’t teach a lot so therefore it is completely depending on the teacher. They have to do a lot of independent studying and the teacher doesn’t even like to use the book they have.
I know people that have taken AP Bio but I haven’t yet but they said it was all taking notes so that is the teachers way of teaching. It all depends on that.
Also at my school AP Bio and AP Chem are double periods so that makes things easier because we can do more in class so it can also depend on that.

I took APUSH last year. It’s not hard, just a lot of work to do. But I certainly wouldn’t advise you to take all three at once. My AP Bio class gives almost no homework, which means I actually have to study for this class in order to for it really sink it, whereas in classes like AP Chem and APUSH, the homework is/was enough. The sheer amount of memorization involved, however, in both AP Bio and APUSH would be a lot to handle. My AP Chem class is pretty easy though. APUSH, for me, was reading and outlining one or two chapters from our textbook for every class, although we were on block schedule, so we had two nights to do it.

So, I would recommend a combination of two of the three. Only all three if you aren’t doing any sports, time-consuming ECs/activities, etc.

If you have block scheduling, you would get two nights to do your homework. Do you have block scheduling? I think you should definitely ask the teachers who teach the classes. Most of the time, teachers for the same subject (two AP Bio teachers) should give out the same amount of homework.

For block scheduling at my school we have four classes the first semester and four different classes the second semester.
I have APUSH and AP Bio this semester, and AP Chem next semester, so it’s not extremely stressful.

@halcyonheather: In our school, we have four classes per day. Does that mean you take your AP exams in the middle of the year?

^
We have four classes a day, and we switch in the middle of the year. We take our AP exams in May like everyone else. The unfortunate thing is we have to wait several months after taking our first-semester AP classes before we take the tests, so we continue to meet after school to review for the test during the second semester.
