I'm 900 miles away from one of my first-choice colleges, and am loath to drive that distance, so I'm wondering approx. how much I should expect to spend on air travel and then public transportation, cabs, etc when I'm there. Not sure how often I should expect to want to come home. I know it's kind of vague, but any help would be appreciated!

Well my case is different because I commute (hour each way). I have class 2 days a week, and gas is $15 per day for that commute. Parking is $200 per year, but only because I opted for the furthest lot to save money. Most students pay $500 per year. Of course, I also have to pay for gas for personal use of my car for appointments, shopping, etc. my school does have good shuttle service to the subway for students without cars.

Many schools include a year round pass for public transportation within the tuition costs. Just about every school I’ve ever looked into has included this. That would definitely be worth checking into. This pass will usually include transportation to train stations/airports etc. for when you’re leaving or arriving.

As far as airfare goes, you can go onto travel websites and type in departure and destination information, and they’ll compare different prices. Flights really aren’t all that expensive, especially for reasonably short distances like that.
