This is my first post on CC. When i was 18 and attended business school I did skip my one class alot. My school was down the street from a mall. I’m 43 now and back in school for the second time. I definitely wouldn’t skip now at all. I did miss one class early on because I was sick. Even missing one day put me behind a little bit.

Well, I’ve skipped for the sake of just not wanting to go once in an easy philosophy course my sophomore year (I’m a junior now). However, I’ve not showed up to class due to weather concerns twice, also my sophomore year.

I think a lot of this depends on the kind of class. In a big lecture hall, yeah, there’s no attendance policy and you’ll be good if you can get notes from someone. But in smaller classes in your major, it’s almost impossible to miss, especially if there’s a strict attendance policy. In my school’s college of arts and sciences, for example, they only let you miss 3 MWF courses before your grade goes down. And in a small French phonetics class of only 8 people, the prof is definitely going to know if you’re not there haha

And as far as the whole judgement thing, you really can’t judge someone by how often they skip class. Yeah they could just be lazy, but also, they could just be smart and know that they can miss class or maybe they just study better on their own. As long as they learn stuff from the class and get a good grade, I think it’s okay. It’s just not okay when you fail because you never showed up.

I would often skip class if I happen to miss the bus (I live off-campus) since walking in late makes me feel anxious. I also skip when I’m not feeling well.

I’ve only skipped one, and that’s cause it was a review day. In hindsight, I probably should’ve gone, but I’m going to hear the same material on Friday at discussion.

Not gonna lie, pretty often. I have a lecture where attendance isn’t taken and the notes from the lecture are posted online. Anything you can’t figure out from the notes is explained in the textbook and I’ve done fine on all the tests and quizzes. I still go about 50% of the time, but if I have lots of homework or something that hour really makes a difference. As for my other classes, I never miss unless I’m sick, and even then I try to only miss if I can get a doctor’s note, which means being sick enough to go to the doctor in the first place.

Freshman, missed two sleeping in and skipped two recitations of the same class because they are useless and I had work to do, nothing to happen and no consequences in grade at any level. Pretty happy with that balance.

In general, I avoid skipping unless it’s unavoidable or I’m really sick (junior). Usually if it’s a class I could reasonably skip and still do well in the class, I still go to lecture because it helps at least a little. Still, there’s been a couple classes that I ended up skipping consistently because the lectures were completely useless.

Last year, I skipped about 40% of my gen. chem. lectures, and the only thing that verified your attendance was writing your name on a piece of paper. Whenever I overslept or just didn’t wanna sit through 50 minutes of a chapter I already knew, I would call my friend in lecture and ask him to write my name for me.

Seriously though, I think most introductory science lectures are a COMPLETE waste of time. Lecturers just speed through the slides and you sit there trying to absorb the material but you just can’t because 20 seconds per slide isn’t enough time to process everything.

I haven’t missed one class, of course i am only half way through my first semester but I am afraid that if i skip i will miss something important. I don’t think i will ever miss class unless i am severely ill.

I’m skipping more as a 2nd year than last year (4 ish times total last year–Thanksgiving Break / Already knew Chemistry and I could’ve skipped much more)
This year, I’ve skipped a programming class 3+ times because I already knew the stuff / could learn out how to write the programs on my own. I’ve skipped my 2nd semester circuits course a couple of times because all of my other upper division courses cover the same topics more in-depth and I’ve skipped more courses for my extracurriculars. :)

After two full semesters and a summer I have only skipped one class (which I had ~100% in) to study for another class. I have only been late twice, once was my fault (second day of class and I thought the class started at a different time). My grades are good enough that I could skip more if I wanted to, but I see no reason to.

I’ve skipped each class at least 3 times. It makes me anxious though. Usually I skip because I overslept.

I probably skip about 2-4 sessions per class over the course of a semester? It’s actually usually because I’m studying for an exam or finishing a problem set for another class. Unless it’s a class where the professor is a great lecturer, or a class where I can’t learn the material on my own, I don’t see any reason not to optimize my time by skipping classes when necessary.
