Kindergarden, my brother (who was at the time applying to colleges) always talked about all the ivy leagues

I first heard the term ivy League when I was around 10 or 11, but i didn't learn all the colleges in it until I was 15.

I knew of Harvard since I was like 5!! Along with Oxford and Cambridge, and LSE (because my dad went there).

I'm an international, by the way!

But I only knew of the "Ivy League" by the time I was about 11.

well to be honest at age 13/14 i wasn't even SURE that i'd be able to make it to a university - i didn't know if i was good enough (though I actually was, just that i didn't know) and my parents made themselves seem so poor that i had this paralysing fear that i'd be working fast food after high school because we couldn't afford to send me to university.

i really fell in love with Princeton a year or two ago though. i'm not the type to hang Princeton pennants and banners and whatnot in my room, but I knew i wanted to go there. :)

9th grade -- it was actually on a vacation when we were travelling down to DC to renew our passport and we had to stay overnight at New Haven and I saw some painting about "planting ivy". I had heard of the separate schools before, but I had been unaware of the "League".

I was 5 or 6 years old when I first heard about it. My first dream school was Harvard, then I kept switching dream schools.

While the OP is still responding, I want to ask if you are you a Singaporean too? That makes four that I know at CC so far?

I was at Fairfield Methodist Primary School 2001-2002 (I came over from American elementary/middle school; before that I was at Wesley Child Care in Singapore :D) and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) 2003-2004.

Since I was conscious. My father said that he would only pay for college if I went to an Ivy League. BTW, he is true to his word, I'm going to Amherst and he's not paying.

I don't remember exactly how old I was, but I was very young. My mom and dad went to Penn and Harvard, respectively.

I think I've heard of Harvard and Yale when I was about 11, but I didn't know until recently what the Ivy-league was.

I knew HYP since I was 7 or so, the others around 14/15.

When I was around 2... My grandfather went to Harvard so that was a common topic of discussion for my family.

My parents tell me that I wanted to go to MIT when I was in first grade (w tf? no recollection whatsoever, haha).

I knew about HYP when I was around 8, but I didn't know what schools were "ivy" until I was 12ish...

Do you mind if I ask you what kind of prestige-obsessed people your parents are?

Probably when I was 9 or so...

Since I can remember....both parents went to Ivies and I've been dragged to reunions since I was a little kid

I think I was pretty little (5 or 6--not that surprising since many people on one side of my family have gone to one Ivy or another), but I didn't know which schools exactly were in the Ivy League.
I think I decided it meant that if you went to Harvard, you had to be really careful not to step in poison ivy. :P

Same thing as the Op. i thought they were special because of their architecture or something and they had ivy growing on the exterior walls or something....no clue what i was thinking.

But yea...basically Princeton was the first school I ever heard about. Fresh prince of Bel-Air is where it was at.

My 12 year old daughter said to me Yale and Harvard does not sound as nice as Ivy league. Yeap, she's heard of Ivy league but not Yale and Harvard.

My older bro who is 10 years older then me went to Harvard; so around 8. Then again I didn't know which schools made up the entire Ivy League until I was 14 or 15.
