Have any of you seen the show Ivy Dreams?

It's a documentary that was on MTV I think, about 4 high school seniors in 05-06 and it tracks their journey through Senior year. It's basically showing the pressure that Asian parents put on their kids. I'm Asian, but holy *****, I mean seriously.

YouTube - Ivy Dreams 1/10 Intro

there was a thread on it a couple of months back

2:49 - That’s what she said.

Yeah, a thread exactly like this was posted a while ago.

I’ve seen it.

I was kind of really surprised that any of them got into Ivies.
Love Diana.

^Yeah, but you have to remember it was like 5 years ago–before the epic echo-baby boom…

Still, though, I was surprised too.

Diana’s reactions were sort of subdued. I would be seriously jumping up and down SCREAMING.

Only the asian with a 2360 got accepted to Yale and Harvard. That’s refreshing.

My favorite part was when the guy scored a 1400 on his SAT after scoring a 1430 the first time. What an optimist. Shame he forgot to take his SAT II’s.

Oops I did a quick search and couldn’t find that thread, my bad. Yea Mike was idiot.

I’m disappointed nobody liked my awesome that’s what she said.

I gotta say this definitely isn’t typical. I mean, yeah, my parents rank schools based completely on US News rankings. But I was able to sit them down and explain my reasoning for choosing the schools I did. I’m only applying to two ivies, and although I’m very competitive to those schools, I’m not gonna be crushed if I don’t get in. Neither will my parents, since that’s not where my heart was set at anyways.

Also, I love the guy in this show. I don’t think he was ever Ivy qualified (let’s be honest) but he seems like he would be a real chill guy just to hang out with. The other three all seemed like they were your stereotypical Asian kid. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’m all about breaking those stereotypes and being unique.

oh poor Sophie :(

I wartched ivy dreams and even got some of my friends to watch it. Its a shame they only did four seniors. It would have been more interesting if the kids on the show were more diverse if you know what I mean.

As soon as I heard Sophie read her essay out loud, I knew she was doomed. Poor girl. Diana, on the other hand, seemed like a shoe-in.

^ Was she the one that wrote about NHS? I don’t think that was that smart, since most NHS’s really don’t do too much from what I’ve heard. Then again, I wrote mine on Track and Field…so what do I know.

Mike’s got good taste in food, that’s for sure. Red Baron French Bread Pizzas are amazing. I might live off of them in college.

Yeah, I was surprised any of them got in.

Mike seemed cool but uh 1400s not gonna cut it for Columbia man…

Sophie’s parents were awful, esp. the dad. She wouldv’e been much happier without the pressure just hanging out and going to a decent, not elite school. But she did act REALLY awful throwing that offer of full tuition on the ground and mocking the letter…

LMAO,

“Ivy Dreams: Where are they now?”

Sophie: Jail
Mike:Homeless
Other two: 1 at Yale, 2 is Living at Home Still searching for a job.

Just wondering, what is an echo-baby?

haha why does it not surprise me that Sophie is the one who messed her life up? A lot of kids like that who get completely sheltered in by their parents get crazy once they’re on their own.
