How outdoorsy is Dartmouth?

I've always heard that Dartmouth is an outdoorsy school but to what extent?

To the extent that if you want to go on outdoors trips of various types, there are certainly people who do it often (read: the members of the various branches of the DOC) Also, while most students may not do it regularly, I think it speaks about the student body that over 90% of us go on a freshman trip, and thus survive ~4 days sans a shower or, in many cases, a roof. So while not everyone does it regularly or even often, there are a core group that does, and most students are willing to at least consider should the right conditions present themselves.

There’s also DOC weekends once a term. It’s a chance for people that don’t normally participate in DOC activities to get outside and do something. However, you can join one or more DOC groups and go to meetings/do stuff on your own schedule.
I would say that people here are slightly more outdoorsy than your average group of students. If you extend this to physically active, then you would describe a lot more students.

Great thanks. So I’m assuming not everyone is the “I DON’T NEED TO SHOWER FOR A WEEK AND I COULD SLEEP OUTSIDE ANYTIME” type of person?

Haha not at all. I’d say there are very few people that hardcore about it, though they do exist.

bit early for chicken, stanford, even on the east coast.
