How Parchment Misled Us

<p>Parchment is more accurate with large publics which admit based on stats rather than holistic review. The percentages it generated for LACs were useless in our experience. </p>

<p>As a parent who has been through this once and gearing up for second time around, I encourage parents to scour the Common Data Set for schools they are considering. The Common Data Set for each school identifies the application components it considers “very important” “important” “considers” and “not considers”. Among a very preliminary list my son is looking at, there are huge differences from CDC – some consider legacy or demonstrated interest as “important” – the same category as class rank and essays for those schools. Other schools deemphasize those factors in admission decision. </p>

<p>@billcsho, depends on the school and region but I heard a similar thing. Being an Asian male is the toughest category to the big tech schools. Also, again in our case, we’re talking upwards gpa trend and strong LORs. I remain firmly convinced about the financial angle and now realize ethnicity and lack of demonstrated interest would help explain 2 of the unexpected results. Time to move on…</p>

<p>If they are all need sensitive schools, it may well be the case.</p>
