How Accurate is Parchment's Predictor

On Parchment, you can put in information about yourself that leads to it predicting acceptances and denials (in percent). How accurate are these predictions?

From what I’ve seen, they’re worthless.

Not worth a farthing!

No automated chancing system currently in service is that great; CC is a lot better, even with the humans manning the system.

OK, then could you all take a look at my stats:

White male from a full-pay family
National Merit Semi-Finalist (almost certainly a finalist)
SAT: 2310 (730 CR, 800 M, 780 W)
SAT II: 790-Spanish, 750- Math
WGPA: 4.46
UWGPA: 3.52 (at a rigorous private school)
Class Rank: between 7 and 10 out of 73, though we do not officially rank
I have taken the hardest road available. We do not offer APs, but I have twice taken an extra course and have always taken the hardest-level honors course
ECs: Decent
Essay: Decent-Good
Recommendations: Very Good
Admission History: ED Denial at Duke and EA Deferral at Tulane (which confused my college counselor)

College List:
Richmond
Vanderbilt
Penn
Tulane
Davidson
Alabama
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Miami

Thank you!

…I’d double check your essays/recs for red flags.

Something’s wrong imo… I agree with Alexmer. Double check your essays…

parchment sucks my balls

Maybe you didn’t express that much interest in Tulane… Tulane increased the weight it granted to demonstrated interest lately.

Richmond: Match/High match
Vanderbilt: Reach
Tulane: Match/High match
UPenn: Reach
Davidson: Reach
Alabama: Safety
Oklahoma: Safety
South Carolina: Safety
U Miami (FL): Low match/Match

I completely and utterly disagree with the post about Tulane above. I have not visited Tulane, signed up for any mailing list and applied EA as a safety for business school. I was admitted and they were very generous to give 20k a year for merit aid.

Tulane may have a low acceptance rate, but you would by lying to yourself if you think its a high match, its a low match. I agree with your adviser something is fishy.

They may not admit you if you

a) Know nothing about the school or do not show why you want to go.
Did you mention the programs you like? The ECs you want to join? What makes Tulane the top of your list? This is too late to change but just food for thought.

b)Extremely Overqualified, don’t think you will attend.
I don’t think this was the reason because I have VERY similar stats, demographic background and school environment. Just send a bunch of emails saying how much you love the school to your rep. Maybe get in a visit if you are that dedicated and email about that.

c) You were arrogant in your essays.
I am not judging you because frankly I don’t know you or what you wrote at all. I wrote most of my essays about teamwork, finding myself and community values. There is no formula but don’t write just about yourself, write about others and what it brought out of you.

With a 2310, you should have gotten accepted. There is definitely something fishy in your app. Do you have any wrongdoings on your school record? Im not judging you (I have never met you), but that is something that would keep a very qualified student out of even 2nd or 3rd tier schools.
