How political is Brown, exactly?

Don’t get me wrong - I love the occasional political debate. I go to a very liberal school in NYC; I’m accustomed to hearing about politics and offering my own opinions. But it’s definitely not my favorite topic of conversation. After reading some threads on here, I’ve found that Brown is quite often referred to as a “political” school. How pervasive is this culture on campus?

If by political you mean “politics” in the most narrow sense, I’d say Brown is not more political than your average progressive undergraduate college. My friends and I do discuss politics more often than I discuss it with some of my family members/friends back home, but I definitely am not overwhelmed by NYT headline discussions either. Brown does have a pretty significant social justice bend, and I do think discussions of social identity are quite common (probably more so than discussions on the omnibus spending bill), but even then I have never felt overwhelmed, and my social circle is quite liberal. You will be fine.

Thanks, really appreciate it!

I 100% agree, I was a little worried about that same thing and it hasn’t even occurred to me to be an issue throughout my first year
