How racially diverse and tolerant are people at Williams?

I was accepted to William’s class of 2020! I love the school from what I know about it, and I’m going to go to the Admitted Students Day to see if it would be the right fit for me!
I just have one concern. I’m a person of color (biracial, white & african), and I was just wondering how diverse really is Williams? I tried looking at other threads about diversity and racial tolerance at Williams, but it was hard to find anything really.
Are there actually a lot of students of color on campus? Over all, do people from all different backgrounds hang out or do students at Williams hang out in their own cliques/bubbles?

I realize this might seem like a silly question to ask, but as a person of color who has lived in a town with a white majority for her entire life, I’d prefer to go somewhere a bit different. For example, in my town ethnic groups are pretty split up when it comes to friends, I’m like one of six biracial students at my school, and and it’d be pretty rare to see a interracial couples around here. I don’t want to have to try and blend in and ignore my heritage in order to be accepted by others. Should I expect the same from Williams?
As of right now, I’m thinking attending the Admitted Students Day would be the best way to know for myself though!

I’d love to hear from some current/past Williams students, especially students of color too maybe with your experiences?

Thank you!

I’d consider reaching out to the BSU (search for Williams Black Student Union–they have an FB page I can’t link to here for some reason)–I bet some of the AA students in that group are biracial and/or would be willing to talk to you about the present climate on campus. I had biracial friends when I was there (one of whom is now a prominent community organizer following a great stint in the NAACP), but a lot has changed since the 90’s haha.

See EphBlog for much discussion around this topic. The key question is: Compared to what? Williams has, for example, a much higher percentage of African American students than, say, Middlebury. But Cambridge is infinitely more racially diverse compared to Williamstown. Let us know where else you are considering and we can give you more informed commentary.

@EphBlogAgain in comparison to Carleton or Pomona for instance or like Yale(if I get in lol)

FYI Ephblog has a very particular political slant and is generally dominated by older alums, @ksinke97
