how religious?

i think i read somewhere in a student review that if a student isn't very religious he or she will have difficulty fitting in. how accurate is this?

i'm also a little apprehensive of the 35% acceptance rate.. is this because of the test-optional policy? i will be submitting my scores

That’s not the case in my experience. I am a freshman and have yet to attend church. In fact only one of my friends goes weekly. I wouldn’t let the acceptance rate stop you from applying, you never know what could happen. I don’t think sending scores makes much of a difference admissions wise (I sent mine).

thanks lily! i ended up applying. how do you like Holy Cross? was it your first choice?

As a senior, I can also attest that HC is as religious as you want it to be. I have friends that are not Catholic and then I have friends that serve in campus ministry. In general, Jesuits are fairly liberal in the Catholic spectrum. You hear the Jesuit ideals around campus quite a bit, but essentially they are about helping others and being a conscientious world citizen.

It was my first choice and I love it. It has been such an awesome experience thus far.

Agreed with the above two users. I’m personally not a religious person. I claim myself Christian because most of my family are, but I haven’t stepped in a church in a decade until that ONE time I voluntarily attended a mass because my friends wanted to (which was a terrible idea on my part because I was SO lost haha). I have friends who serve in the minsitry as well and I know of some athiests too. Like enigma025 said before, the schools follows Jesuit ideals like instilling students to be “men & women for others”. It’s pretty liberal.

The Jesuit Order has fallen more than any other . . .
