What is the workload like? How is the grading? In particular, how are the entry-level science and math courses?

Can't anyone help this person out? Even if you don't major in math or science, students must know how tough the entry level courses are.

I'll take a shot here. D is a first year. She works very hard but does well. I think it is a very challenging academic environment. But, because it is a small school and everyone is in the same situation, it leads to a good learning environment. No one can coast at this school, so everyone is supportive of the work environment. So, yes it is a very challenging school but the right environment to succeed in.

Students are expected to work hard at this school, the work load is heavy, but the profs are extremely helpful and available. She is currently in a class of about 12 kids that spend every Tues in the prof office doing the homework as a group. She says she learns more in this class than any other Math class she ever had.

Hamilton is hard. There is no way around it. There is a lot of work-- sometimes so much that I don't think I can possibly get it all done. However, there is a great support system from professors and the writing center and TAs, and I have done well despite the difficulty.

If you go to Hamilton, expect that the education is going to be difficult, but top notch. I have learned so much in all of my classes, that the difficulty of the work seems so inconsequential. I am only a freshman, but I have had three life changing classes so far!

I agree that Hamilton is can be incredibly hard, however I have several friends who wanted to start off slow in the first year, and they have accomplished that. Most kids on campus do a lot of work, get a lot out of it, and receive good grades. At the same time, there are a few who take classes that are not as challenging. It is really up to you to get what you want out of the education, although there are so many people there to help at every step.
