how risky would this be?

Writing an essay about God as the fictional character who has influenced me.

It would depend on a few things:

1.) Are you religious? Has faith in God been important in your life? It would depend on the religious context. Clearly, an adcom reading an essay such as this whose writer was involved in church activities may find that it described the writer and applicant well. However...

2.)...If you are writing about god as a fictional character even though you are NOT religious, then the essay may be humourous or indicate your agnostic or atheist tendencies?

And 3.) If you're applying to a religious school.

I think to better answer your question, I would need to know about your religious beliefs or lack there of.

i guess it depends on whether the adcom is religious

No, I'm not religious. Would adcoms really discriminate against you if you express contrary beliefs or, to a slight degree, make fun of theism?

Very risky lol Let's say you make fun of theism and like someone else mentioned, your reader(s) are religious? You may offend them. I'm sure tehy won't discriminate against you if you write about your beliefs in a tasteful manner. But yeah, I don't think "making fun of" another religion is the way to go. Instead of showing humor and your individuality, people may perceive other traits

I think the essay could be very interesting to read, but it must be handled with taste and tolerance. Writing an essay about how your potential atheist or agnostic beliefs were derived from your observations of the character of God could be incredibly interesting to read, but you must not push YOUR beliefs and must remain tolerant.

I could read it if you wish?
