I have Googled for the statistics but don't seem to be able to find them at all.

Is there anywhere where I can find the admission statistics for graduate computer science programs at top universities (Stanford, CMU, MIT, Berkeley, Princeton, Caltech)? I'm looking for statistics like: applied, admitted, enrolled.

Otherwise, can anybody offer advice on how selective these schools are?

I am looking to apply to these top schools but I'd like some suggestions on other programs to apply to in case I don't get in. As an undergrad, I applied to 9 schools: 3 reaches, 3 matches and 3 safeties. Does the same logic apply to graduate admissions? If so, does anyone have suggestions on what safety or match schools I can consider applying to? (USC, UWashington?)

I can’t say much about stats but no advisor at my school has told me that UWash can be considered a safety school. It’s a pretty top notch and competitive program to get into.

I looked on Peterson’s for software engineering and they have admission rates for a number of schools, but not all the top ones. [“software engineering” Results - “290” Graduate Schools and Graduate Programs found for “software engineering”](<a href=“Graduate School Search | Grad School & Grad Program Finder”>Graduate School Search | Grad School & Grad Program Finder) Some schools expect masters candidates to be continuing for their doctorate and don’t distinguish between admissions to those programs. Between Peterson’s and some other places I’ve learned:

Stanford 18% (123/667 in 2011)
UC Berkeley 9%
UIUC 10% MS and PhD together
I think I’ve seen CMU Silicon Valley in the 14% range.
University of Washington -11% (yes, very selective!)
U of Mich Dearborn 22%
DePaul 65% (they have an online degree program so that may skew figures)

I was looking up California programs on behalf of my son. Here’s some figures just for comparison:

USC 29%
San Jose State U - 23% or 55% - depends whether you filter to Software Engineering or Computer Science ??
UC Santa Cruz 32%
UC Fullerton 63% (they have an online program)
