How should I describe art?

I started having a passion for art about a year and a half ago, and I’m proud to have kept it up and seen myself improve from just stick figures. In general, art is something that’s fun for me to study and relax with, and I love visiting art museums wherever I go.
I’m probably going to write about art already, so should I still list it as an activity?

I’m in art honor society and we repainted the lockers at our school as book covers, made staff holiday cards, and stepping stones for the garden. I’m also going to try to run for a position but I can’t bank on that… I also want to include that I got 2nd in my school art show and 3rd for my portfolio at a spring city exhibition. Should I just leave my application as these things and only use the hours from art honor society?
Or can I include the time I spend sketching and practicing for fun?

I like to do art trades, collabs, and I’ve also made a few contributions for fanzines (some for charity and some for profit). I spend on average 8 hours a week during the school year and a little more in the summer on art as a hobby. Art honor society only meets once a month to do projects that can range from one day to the entire month including weekends…

I’m confused on how to list my hours (if I can/should combine them) and if what I do for hobby art is too insignificant to include. Also how in depth should I go when describing what I do?

I know there are a lot of these EC questions on here and I’m sorry I’m adding to it, but thank you for any help.

Hello! It seems that art is really important to you; I think you should definitely list it, especially if you spend that many hours on it a week. Art/journaling is also important to me, so I’m choosing to include it on my activity list as well. It appears that art is going to be a really important theme and aspect of your narrative in your application. Don’t shy away from describing your art in-depth (since the whole concept of “art” is a really broad term in general).

I wouldn’t worry too much about being redundant. From what I’ve read, colleges don’t get a lot of time to read through your application–if something (such as “art-lover”) stands out to them, they’ll be able to remember you more clearly, and that’ll certainly help you. Good luck!
