I'm going to be a senior next year and I feel like I haven't pushed myself hard enough to impress the right colleges. I've already done Physics H and was great at it (I know it's not that big of a deal) so I'm scheduled to take AP Physics B next year but I also want to independently study for AP Physics C. I've taken AP Calc AB and am independent studying AP Calc BC with my friend next year. I've met motivated and intelligent kids who have independently studied for other AP tests. I'm wondering how I should approach this challenge. I looked at the Physics C Course description and it said that there should be a lot of labs so I might even start a club for it. But anyways the only thing I know to do right now is get the AP Physics C study book (recommend brand?). What else should I do?

Go to the AP test forum. They have many resources including what books are best/how to self study difficult courses.

The best books (choose 1) would probably be:
Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick and Walker
Fundamentals of Physics by Giancoli
University Physics by Young and Freedman
I also suggest buying the solution manuals
Use apphysicslectures.com and the MIT OCW lectures to supplement.

That being said, Physics C will be ridiculously hard to independent study because you haven’t taken Physics B, I suggest just self studying Mechanics.

Check out MIT OpenCourseWare! I’m going through it in my sophomore homeschooling curriculum and it’s awesome.

Physics I: MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.01 Physics I: Classical Mechanics, Fall 1999 | Home and Physics I: Classical Mechanics | MIT Video Course (same thing, first link has easier navigation to assignments, exams, notes, etc.)

Physics II: MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.02 Electricity and Magnetism, Spring 2002 | Home and Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism | MIT Video Course

Physics III: MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.03 Physics III: Vibrations and Waves, Fall 2004 | Home and Physics III: Vibrations and Waves | MIT Video Course
