Okay here is the deal. I would like my CR score to be above 700. My score is around 620 now..

Okay so sentence completions. I know a LOT of those SAT words, definitions, connotations, etc. But when I see one of those 4-5 level questions, I just don't even understand the sentence.

And passage reading, I often miss inference questions (ex: the author SUGGESTS.... , the author IMPLY.... , etc)

Consider the following sentence: Effort needed is proportional to IQ.
This means that the amount of effort needed rises as the higher your IQ is.

Therefore, we can conclude that: Effort needed is inversely proportional to IQ, means that the amount of effort needed decreases the higher your IQ is.

Just concentrate on one the CR section for a week. Just keep doing passages. I am in the same situation as you i get scores around 600 but i want to get 700+. Memorize the direct hits and other 100-500 vocab and just like practice alot. The more i practice, the more I realize that all the answers for CR are given in the passage just in a weird way. Do like 1-3 CR section everyday. Reviewing your mistakes is the most important part and also acknowledge the ones you got right and how you got them right. The use the same technique for the next section. Try not to read too much into the question.

Hope that helps (I am not a SAT expert, but this is the advice i found on other threads, websites etc.)

For the sentence completion, I don’t think you can do much without studying vocab :/

But for the inference questions, remember this: even though it may say “suggests” or “implies”, the answer HAS to be in the passage. It can’t not be in the passage. If any of the answer choices mentions something that wasn’t blatantly stated in the paragraph, you can cross them out. This usually leaves you with 1 or 2 answers. From then you can choose the answer that you feel is correct (it usually is).

Also, make sure you mark up your passages when you do them. Whenever you’re about to start a fresh passage, scan over the questions and mark the appropriate line numbers. Then start reading the passage and doing the related questions. This way you only ever have to read the passage once, and you may not even need to read all of it.

And another word of advice for the CR section:
Do the Sentence Completions, then WORK BACKWARDS (in terms of passages)! This helps a lot, as you are more determined and willing to work at the start of a section. Also, since the passages near the end are more difficult, you won’t have to worry about time as much. I do this, and I usually end up finishing with atleast 5 minutes left, while being sure of my answers on the passage-based reading part. These 5 minutes can then be used to check over your Sentence Completions.

Take 10 practice tests, one each day if ur taking oct 1 SAT. (assuming u can finish homework after that)

After each test you should be better at finding the correct type of answers. Honestly what helps me is to actually read the passage carefully and word for word, and answer after each paragraph, that way it’s easier to manage in small chunks.

PAY ATTENTION to the context, you have to really understand what the the passage is trying to convey. It could be easier for you to apply different skills on different types of articles. For instance, for the essays or articles related to science (usually very logical and clear), read the questions first, then go back to the passage to identify the answer ( it’s quite useful, especially when you’re struggling to gain more time), but for the articles excerpted from a novel that usually use a hell lots of rhetorics you have to really stick to the passage and try to figure out what does the auther implies in the article. My previous SC was 640, and Im also looking foward to going to 700, Hope this could help BTW I also do terribly bad on my SCs…but don’t give up craking the words, you never know when they will help!
