How should this essay be scored as?

Also realize that you can have a low 6, or a high 4, so to speak. So you might get a 5 and a 6 or a 5 and a 5 in the first case, or a 4 and a 5 or a 5 and a 5 in the second case. A 5 is not a 5 is not a 5. If you get a 10, that doesn't mean that you could have just as easily gotten a 4 and a 6 (I realize that isn't possible).

what if the third reader gave a 3..lol

Tsmallzxc: I took it in both March and May. My March one was a page and a fifth, had two good (I thought) examples. Although I liked my choice for the second example, I poorly developed it. It also had a brief, 4 sentence conclusion. I got a 9. For the May one, I got a 10. If grading was easier in May, then perhaps this says something about the importance of length and number of examples. Feel free to look up my rant on the essay in another thread.

Length really is important. it may seem not but neat handwriting and length gives a really good impression. Remember the ppl read like hundreds of essays and if they got stuck on urs and can't finish....ouch

Sorry, your argument isn't very convincing. They won't mark anyone down for bad handwriting; if it's simply unreadable, it gets a 0. I'm not sure what you're trying to say about an essay reader getting stuck on an essay. What do you mean to say? That if it's so long and they can't finish it, they'll slap a 5 or a 6 on it? Every essay has a maximum of 2 pages. They have enough time to read it and grade it.

i mean you know how these graders get tired after a while right? if your essay is hard to read (smudged, messy, lots of arrwos), they will slap a low score on urs and move on. i am not saying everyone is like that but some are...

The graders are only human, as much as you may wish they were objective machines, so these suggestions that being able to actually follow the writing counts are correct. I've actually done standardized essay scoring, and it's real sweatshop work--lots of time pressure. People do the very best they can to stay objective and "standardized," but they are human.

BTW, I don't think of selling one's child as a "skill." But as someone said, it's over; relax and enjoy your time off!

Wow thank you for your opinion sir.

In your empirical view, how would you score my essay?

If the SAT hasn't gotten to your head yet Vehement, it certainly has gotten to mine. I go to this board everyday to find something that can ultimately ameliorate my fears about the test, a certain answer to a question that I may have gotten wrong. Summer vacation hasn't started yet in my school (Snow days), but I really need to prevent the College Admissions process from taking over my life!

Tried and failed >_<. CC got the better of me

VEHEMENT...c h i l l. its been how many days now? since you took the test

Vehement vehementally wants to know with vehemence.
