How should this sentence be written?

<p>Five years in the writing, her new book is both a response to her critics' mistrust [with] her earlier findings and an elaboration of her original thesis.</p>

<p>The word "with" is wrong, but I cannot see a better word to put there. WHY is "with" wrong, and what word(s) belong?</p>

<p>I think it’s an idiom thingy. It should be mistrust OF her earlier findings. </p>

<p>I’m not 100% sure.</p>

<p>I personally have a lot of trouble with these. If you search on Google you can find lists of words with the proper word it goes with (ex. believed IN, blamed FOR, charged OF)</p>
