How sterotypical are frats/sororities?

I'm only a sophomore in hs but I'm curious about greek life. I use to watch the show called Greek on ABC Family and I want to know if greek life is seriously like that?

Do frats and sororities party EVERY weekend? Do they care about sex, drugs, alcohol, reputaion and prepiness more than brotherhood, sisterhood and community?

Do they have ridiculous, pointless and humiliating hazing acts? Do sororities judge girls on their make-up, money and popularity? These are things I hear and see on tv mainly from majority white greeks.

What about black frats/sororities? How are those? I know they step a lot which is cool. I am also black so I'm leading more towards a black sorority.

Reason for that is b/c I live in the suburbs and are surrounded by whites 24/7 which is fine. Blacks are excepted and get a long here, but I wanna be around more blacks and our culture.

And no, don't think we are all "ghetto" and ignorant. A lot of us aren't.

Anyway I would enjoy the feedback. Oh and also my top choices are:

Marquette University
University of Pittsburgh
Unicersity of Minnesota
University of Mizzou (Missouri)
University of Illinois-Urbana Champain

How is the greek life at those colleges?

Sent from my LG-P509 using CC App

Many fraternities and sororities are stereotypical and break college hazing and drinking rules. Some are not. Some colleges have more of the stereotypical ones and some don’t.

From what I have seen, the all black sororities are very similar to the mixed sororities in their interactions with fraternities, popularity within the sisters, etc.
You probably want to go on something called greekchat and research the threads there. Its very comprehensive.

i heard that some black frats do stuff like branding
