how stressful is it at NU?

based on the curriculum rigor, the quarter system, and the fact that I probably plan to double major in journalism/econ (and business institutions) I feel like Northwestern is going to make me feel stressed out at times.

How has the experience been for you? How much free time do you have, and how hard do you think it is to stay up with work? Advice?

Thanks so much.

The pace is very fast. If you really need time to digest information, then it might not be the best setup for you. But if you can get ahold of things with a little extra explanation, the profs are ready to help you out.

There’s no question about stress, generally. Unless you’re one of the chosen few who can keep balanced without just blowing work off. But it’s good to keep things in perspective, and not to get freaked out by small things. Talk to profs and ask for advice if you hit difficult spots.

I have enough free time to hang out with friends, go to dinner, play video games, etc. There’s definitely days where I spend all day at my desk, or stay up all night, but those are pretty rare.

Short version: Don’t get too uptight, and manage your time.
