whats the northwestern work load like? does the quarter system make the classes more intense? lots of reading and writing? are kids studying most of the time?

It depends on the type of class/program you’re in. I’m a Medill freshman and my journalism classes aren’t too reading intensive (except for 202…), but they still take up a lot of time with interviewing and such. I think the reading workload for my classes is pretty manageable though, as long as you’re not taking like four literature classes at once. Once you learn how to balance somewhat easy courses with more challenging courses, it should be okay.

it depends on your major and your own gpa expectations. there are people that do the minimum and there are people that never stop studying.

Does anyone know about the workload for film (rtvf) majors?

it would be easier to answer this question if we knew what you planned on studying

how about econ? and how about econ + either math or stats

And can I still have a life as a biomedical engineer? =P

@jchen3

for a typical econ class i usually spend 4-5 hours a week (mostly problem sets). there are hard econ classes like adv. econometrics or economics of risk which require more work. i transferred so i dunno about the 200 level math classes but the 300 level math classes are tough, so if you want an A i’d say you should spend like 6-8 hours a week on those.

You will find that in the STEM majors that your work will revolve a lot around study groups. I always had a study group where we could compare problems and answers in those courses.

Err… Sorry- what does STEM stand for?

STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

add Economics under the Mathematics category

Awesome; thanks! Study groups sound nice. =)

good luck with having a life doing biomedical engineering…pretty much if u want to have friends they’ll be people you study with.

Entry level econ classes are easy but going up into upper levels I heard is hard (econometrics, etc)…

basically like the above poster said anything related with sciences, engineering, or econ will have you busting ass if you want to do well.

my friends in medill don’t do **** lol

I’m an econ major. What classes do econ students typically sign up for? Any advice for the incoming Econ freshman?

i’m still undecided. i was thinking about econ, but I still have my doubts. do you guys have any recommendations for a WCAS student? like good classes that aren’t extremely tough, with good professors? thanks everyone

I know almost everyone took Intro to Sociology. Huge class.
