I'm not a crazy person by any stretch of the imagination, but I've gone to boarding school for 4 years and am looking forward to more freedom in college. I'm getting really sick of internet shutting off and checking in at 10 o'clock. I love everything about WNL, but i've heard that it is really strict which is a concern for me. Is this a false perception?

Strict? In what sense? Washington & Lee is a very hardworking/hard liquor drinking fraternity/sorority oriented school. The students are very bright and very Old South. There is no check-in time. College is not boarding school, unless you attend a service academy such as West Point or the Naval Academy. I was surprised to read in one of your earlier posts that zero out of 15 Deerfield applicants to Penn were admitted under the ED program. Any idea why?

OK i'll address two things.

First, I was reading the alum's perspective of WNL where she said kids get in trouble a lot or something, have you read what this person said? It made WNL sound very very strict.

And yea 0 out of 15 into Penn. Apparently the guy who was dean of admissions was our connection at Penn, and so he resigned. And apparently the new interim dean does not like boarding schools as much and is trying to diversify into the public school system. It makes some sense although I'm not sure if I believe. The past 4 years 70% in early so it was a shocker to Deerfield.

"P.S. - FYI - just be aware of the legal aspects in and around Lexington also - the school does have some pretty rigid rules when it comes to 'getting caught' when it relates to any alcohol incidences - and ya - parents do find out about it if it happens - the local police, ER and the school have a pretty good communication standard - so be forwarned - but otherwise - have a great time!!!"

Interesting. The Penn Dean of Admission made headlines with the abrupt departure without explanation. From 70% to zero% raises speculation of possible impropriety between the two.

Umm . . . by strict do you mean in enforcing the law? Or are you talking about the Honor System? The Honor System is about as strict as it gets but it obviously doesn't cover things like a curfew.

"Very hardworking/hard liquor drinking fraternity/sorority oriented school?" I know a lot of slackers/nondrinkers/independents who would argue against that characterization.

Sorry to continue to go off topic, but the Deerfield-Penn thing is surprising - Especially since Andover went about 7/16 ED. Andover and Deerfield are definitely peers, so you wouldn't think that there would be that big of a disparity with the ED results.

Yea, it was a shocker, and I feel like the kids applying this year were similar to the ones last year. 3 legacies didn't get in for crying out loud. Oh well, I didn't even visit campus I just applied last minute so now I will be able to make an informed decision and hopefully have options.
