How submitting SAT scores work?

So I sent some of my old SAT scores to some colleges I applied to already, but that was before I planned on taking it again in January.

When I click "send scores" on college board, it says that I have the option to have it sent when I take the SAT again, or I could just send in my old scores.

Does this mean it doesn't send until I take the SAT again in January? Or it sends a score report reporting I have a test pending? This is really confusing me because I don't want colleges to simply look at my old SAT scores since they are not up to par.

Thanks!

Yes, basically there is two options as you stated.

The one with the option of including the January score is sent after January scores are released. This means colleges do not see any of your old scores at all because the reports are bundled together.

You should use the other report without January if you need to make a deadline for a report that is due before January. That way, Collegeboard sends it in immediately the day it is ordered rather than after January scores. If the college you applied to have deadlines after, then you can use the score report with January scores.

So if I want to send both scores, I have to pay twice?

And the schools that I applied to were mainly Jan 1 deadlines, but they said they accept the January SAT as well. Does that mean I have to send it twice to all of those schools?

Thanks for replying!

Yes, if you choose to send a report without the January scores, you will have to pay again for the January score. If you wait to have them sent all together, you only pay one score report
