Tell us about yourself and maybe we can help.
lets start from the top…
i enjoy running a lot. everyday in the morning i will run 2 miles. 1 mile by myself to get refreshed and 1 mile with my dog. then after school i teach somebody violin. I enjoy cooking. I enjoy playing chess. im in one of the best symphonies in tn. im learning a new language (french). i do track. im in robotics. im in mock trial. i want to major in environmental engineering because i want to do something about the worsening environment. i enjoy kpop. i feel at home when there’s a lot of diversity. I appreciate the chaos of cities. I go canoeing with my friends and like to fish off of the boat…
Those are things you do-but who are you?
Wow, that is all great stuff. You sound quite multi-faceted, and the moment you introduce the run with the dog I begin to see this commercial where a young man is seen growing up with his best friend, a dog, “Duck.” Makes me feel good to think you have taken time out to share time with your dog, in a deliberate and loving way.
You give of yourself (violin), have all cylinders of the brain (awful, awful way to put it, but there it is) on go (chess, symphony, especially), and you are invested in putting time in to protect and sustain the living earth, which sustains you.
I cannot imagine not starting off with the run with the dog, and then jumping right into one of the aspects you’ve written about here that makes you smile the deepest, of which you are most proud. You do not need to talk about what you have achieved, so much as what you give yourself to.
Sit back in your chair, think for a moment about what really makes you say, 'This thing I do is really an extension of who I am," and then share that.
Don’t forget to lean forward and ask the interviewer a few questions about himself/herself, and have a few questions about the university so they can share something with you.
You’ll do great.
Don’t be nervous.
I like your reply. It gives the interviewer lots of angles from which to ask questions, includes some uniquely memorable personal info, gives some insight into what makes you tick…Just say it with a smile and relax. Interviews aren’t meant to be ‘gotcha’ sessions - most interviewers look to put the interviewee at ease and get a conversation going. Like Waiting2exhale says, you’ll do great.
wait… so what i said would be COMPLETELY fine (making it better)? because some said that i need to talk about my achievements and stuff but i thought that will make me come across as narcissistic…
Yes, what you said is fine, because it’s telling about yourself. Not difficult, see? don’t worry, your interviewer will be a skilled conversationalist and will use the info you tell him/her to find questions to ask. Relax!
