How to answer the supplemental short question on favorite book, etc.?

Like for "name your favorite books, authors, films, and/or musical artists", would it be weird if I put down Taylor Swift? Is it supposed to be in a list? How many did you put down? :o

I put 4 books, 3 films, and 8 musical artists. I used this format:

BOOKS: x, y, z. FILMS: x, y, z. ARTISTS: x, y, z.

There are no right or wrong answers. The fact that you’re asking this question means that you should definitely put down T-Swift. Good luck!

There is no right or wrong answer. For example on the “favorite book, artist, film” I filled the 300~350 char limit with a couple sentences about ONE artist that I really liked. I was deferred REA and I doubt it was because they didn’t like the format of my short answers. I’ve seen other people do one word answers, lists, etc.

If things I filled out there aren’t really famous/AO is not likely to know/infer (correct) information from their names (like, for the sites, I put down guokr.com, incatena.org and duelingnetwork.com), should I explain?

Imagine the uproar if some student got a rejection letter that read:
“At this time, we don’t think you’re a match for Stanford. You told us in your writing supplement that you enjoyed Katy Perry’s music. We feel strongly here at Stanford that Katy Perry fans do not fit in.”
Haha put whatever you like! I answered the question the same way that orbdas did, the books/films/artists format.

Put down whatever you want, and don’t put down names you think they want to hear. There’s no right answer; only an answer that will feel right for you.

Just answer truthfully, according to the AO that visited my school, this is just a get-to-know-you section, they want to see that you aren’t just some robot whose life is school, tests and extracurricular activities and so on. Be honest, maybe even crack a joke (Favorite book: Dr Seuss, etc.) and don’t say something that’ll be sure to get you rejected.

So is a list fine, or should I write an explanation for my choices?

Hey! I’m a current freshman at Stanford, and I just listed my favorites on the application! Some of my friends did the same as me, but others wrote in sentences; it doesn’t really matter. Whatever you feel would best show off your unique personality is what I would go with.
