So, I’ve talked over with two Junior teachers (AP English and Bio) who are willing to write recommendations for me. I got A’s in both classes, worked hard, and they both like me. They’ve given me a list of materials to fill out and give to them to help them write recommendations.
I am essentially applying only to Common App schools (with the exception of my friendly neighborhood university, Tulane), and have yet to decide if I’m going for UC’s. This most likely a completely stupid question, but all I have to do is list them as my recommenders on the Common App, and they will receive an email or link to fill stuff out, right?
I’m a junior, and I have a question. Is it ok for me to get them from non-science courses if I’m applying as a Biology Major?
My AP Biology teacher doesn’t know grammar, my AP Physics teacher is so lazy that he will write like 2 lines, and my AP Chem teacher is kinda unpredictable (aka he calls me out in class and recently my grades started dropping).
My social studies teacher loves me, and I think my English teacher also likes me as well.
One of my teachers, after constant reminders, has not uploaded his recommendation to the commonapp! >:( Can I still submit my applcation? Like I assigned him and everything, ughh he’s playing games with my life
totally playing with ur life!! one of my teachers backed out after a month of waiting for her to write. rit now, when all the teachers r on vacation, how dyou think i can get another teacher, which is wat she wants me to do, bcoz she thinks she doesn’t kno me well enuf after 1 year of teaching me.
teachers who don’t honor their word, don’t care about ur college future, Darn!!, are so not qualified to be teachers! ****ed…
If you know who you want to write your recs, try to ask around May of Junior year. If you can get it over then , things will be much easier your senior year. You can even ask earlier if you want.
Onggaku, If this rec was for Common App, you should not worry THAT much as completing the CA, supplement and the app fee is the ONLY headache that the students have to take care of. The rest (recs, transcripts and stuff) are NOT your responsibility. They can be uploaded much (even weeks!!) after the deadline.
Hope this helps.
Good luck
It should be from a junior or senior year teacher. Some schools make this mandatory, but it is a disadvantage if it’s not from a junior or senior year teacher.
I’m a junior. How do you breach the subject about writing recs for you? And when do you do it? I was thinking May this year or something but I’m really not sure how to ask… I want to major in Biology, but I’m taking physics this year and don’t really like my teacher and i don’t think she knows much about me personally except that I come to her outside of class for help if I don’t understand something. I was thinking my honors English teacher this year because he likes me a lot… but what about my freshman honors biology teacher? I still visit him frequently and skip study halls to see him. Idk who I should ask… and how many teachers should you ask?
I think my honors chemistry teacher liked me last year (sophomore)… how can colleges expect you to use senior teachers when the teachers won’t really know you at all because you apply to college at the beginning of the year?
I’m in my school’s PALS club (Peers assisting learning support) and am an active member and an officer. Would it be ok to ask my advisor for a rec? She’s known me since beginning of sophomore year.
I just asked my teacher if he would write a rec for me, and he said yes. For the record, I asked my English teacher (I’m an engineering major, but my writing improved dramatically in his class) and my college Calc I teacher. I had these teachers junior year; I didn’t ask senior year teachers because they didn’t know me well enough, especially when I sent in early apps in November. Some schools have a limit, around 2, and they say it’s a detriment if you send more (unless it’s from someone who knows you very well, such as your club advisor). Use teachers who know you well and who you learned a lot from.
