Hey everyone, I'm new to CC, so bear with me. I just wrote a long post and apparently I wasn't logged in, so it got deleted. (Annoying)

Anyways, I was just accepted to Rutgers University School of Arts and Scienes as a psychology major. Before RU, I went to a community college and have received an associates degree in psychology. I just recently decided that I would like to become a psychiatrist though. After researching the steps I should take, I noticed that most people that are psychiatrists got their bachelors in biology and psychology. Though I haven't received my bachelors yet, I have yet to take any science courses. I only took Chem. I'm going to be a junior and that's the year that most students take the MCAT, the exam needed to get into med school, you need to go to med school to become a licensed psychiatrist.

Background story aside, I have a couple questions:

1) RU is a good state school, like 60th in overall universities in the country, but I wonder how that will stand out when I apply to med school? I know it's up to me to keep a good GPA and such, but I feel like most good med schools are looking for undergrads that went to IVY leagues. I would love to attend a good med school, like Harvard, University of Florida or Johns Hopkins. My brother, who graduated from Cornell, says I should spend one semester at RU and then transfer, but I'm tired of transferring.

2) Since I have yet to really take any science courses, I'm assuming I should put off my MCAT exam until my senior year? I don't feel like taking a semester off after i graduate and then prepare for med school, I want to go from one to the other asap. However, I feel like I'm not prepared, most students that are thinking of becoming psychiatrists got their A.S in biology, I got an A.A in psychology! I know it's not too late, but I just want opinions.

Sorry for sounding so neurotic, I was just kind of freaking out when a friend of mine, who's also looking to become a psychiatrist, sounded so prepared.

Thanks!
