It’s coming up to the end of the school year and those dollar credits that don’t get used expire worthless. Apparently, one is not allowed to store even dried food or laundry detergent over the summer.

So what’s best, either compact enough to buy and store for next school year or to just splurge on, like milkshakes and pints of ice creams?

Based on the origins of this post, which meal plan 1st/2nd semester is best for frosh - what do you personally suggest based on your experiences? Let’s also assume I’m just your typical, run-of-the-mill frosh so as not to complicate the matter further.

On a side note, I hear there’s some sort of movement for a charity organization along the lines of: Credits for the homeless. So… charity?

Last year, I had alot of points left and bought all my school supplies for this year. The Campus Market (in the Faunce basement) has lots of folders, scissors, glue, pencils, pens, etc. and they accept points. They also have items like Nyquil which you can never have too much of in anticipation for the body’s transition to fall at Brown (a.k.a when, not if, you a nasty cold). Hope this helps!

Also, they usually run a food drive where you use unspent credits at the eateries to buy food, then dump it in a bin which goes to soup kitchens et al. So that way you can use up credits, which Campus Market doesn’t accept.

Campus Market is a good way to use stock stuff up for net year, if you have the room to store it. Last year I bought a lot of cereal and stuff like that there, since I was in Providence for the summer. Another fun thing to do is buy 10+ Blue Room muffins and hand them out to people who look stressed.

@arghfrustrated:
Do one of the Flex plans. For me, I did 460 for the first semester, then 330 for the second, since points do roll over from fall to spring. That always ended up with a bit extra. Sophomore year, I did 330 both semesters and was fine. It just depends on how much you eat, and especially things like whether you want to go to the dining hall for a full breakfast or you just want to eat in your room (that’s what I tend to do).

One nifty trick is that if you plan to do Flex 330 for the entire year, you should instead do 460 for the fall, then downgrade to 240 for the spring. Overall, you get more credits and points for less money.
