I'm going to be in 10th grade this next year, but am pretty advanced, i.e. i am taking physics, ap stats, pre calc and chem this year and took ap english as a freshman. my gpa is a cumulative 4.0875 and i scored a 4 on my ap english test last year. Also i scored a 1250 on the old SAT while i was in 7th grade. What can i do to better my chances of getting accepted to Harvard, be it extracurricular or in my class scheduling. i plan on dual enrolling for math and english in my junior year.

I got a 1260 in 7th grade. :P

But seriously, you got a great chance. Just work on some extracurriculars about which you are passionate.

damn, 1240

wow, I got a 930 the summer after seventh grade. Thankfully it's a little high now.

how could you of taken a SAT in 7th grade.....

Through Johns Hopkins program

i just finished 8th grade and i got a 99 in every class i took advanced earth science the physical setting and Math 1H (honors part 1 of math A )

I took the SAT to qualify for an out-of-school english program. Thanks for you comment Sean, it was totally relevant.

1410 at age 12. Frankly, There are plenty of people from JHU's CTY/SET who have done amazingly on the SAT. Your 1200s won't even stay on your record.

Find three or four extracurriculars you really like and put A LOT of time into them. Join a sport.

like wishabee said, find a few extracurriculars you love and do REALLY well in them (get awards, start clubs, get leadership positions, national recognition, etc)
since you seem math/science-y:
get a job, internship, summer opportunity, etc involving your interest (research, lab assistant, anything)
since you're in 10th grade, start thinking about RSI (and/or WTP, if you're female)

First of all, CHILL out. Second, realize that college isn't the point of your existence.

And finally, find something you love to do and aim for national recognition. Or, find a couple of things you enjoy and aim for state recognition (obviously worth more if you're in say CA rather than VT).

Because once you hit the dreaded fall of your senior year, you'll realize that there are SO SO SO SO many talented amazing people who are academic superstars that it scares the willies out of you.

And finally, since you're a sophomore, enjoy the free learning experience of high school, ask teachers for book recs, make time for a bit of a social life. It'll help you appreciate what you have in the long run.

2130 at age 13. -coughs-

Like everyone's been saying, focus on two or three ecs. That's what Harvard considers well-rounded. Get a unique hobby that you're PASSIONATE about.

While we're talking about CTY scores, mine was a 1230 when I was 12. I managed to get it up to a 2330 when I was in 12th grade (and now I'm going to Harvard next month.)

Anyway, srini, glad to hear you're taking advanced courses, but PLEASE don't think about college for at least another year, if not longer... otherwise, when you finally graduate high school, you'll realize that you wasted a lot of your high school experience worrying about something that's really not as important as it may seem to you.

Yeah, Srini, my answer to you is that that 4 in english will cause you to get rejected :D.

At 10th grade, ever figure about "learning it on your own" first? Instead of just getting it spoonfed to you which is real common these days.

and it's "raise" not "better" which is the better vocab choice I believe, as in "how to raise my chances". Maybe it's because my english is betterer than you.

Better is not as common as raise but it's not grammatically incorrect. BTW it should be "than yours". Is the betterer sarcasm? Really, really dumb mistake if it wasn't. Anyway, you should look at your own grammar before you criticize others', Kamikazewave.

I'd think that's sarcasm...though I would've put quotation marks around "betterer..."

Raise is an idiom I believe.

I just wanted to show off my ejucation.

hi, first timer here on this site.
Srini seems a lot like me (but I only got a 1050)
How does this sound. Indoor track, Model UN, Model Judiciary. I also just lettered in L-D debate. 4+ GPA (didn't calc it out, but that's what I guestimate) all honours, taking business classes, and eagle scout. I'm applying for law, so I'm mildly woried. I'm going into 10th next year and not majorly thinking about college, but I want to go to Yale.
