I’m a rising freshman going to Middlesex school in the fall. I was looking at all of the clubs that my school offers, and honestly, there are a lot. I’m not 100% sure what I’m really interested in yet, but there are a ton of clubs that I want to join and i really don’t know which ones would be best in the long run. Whichever clubs I join kind of boil down to one decision: should I go more into STEM or Model UN/Debate/Community Service type of category? I already have computer programming and precalculus (it’s considered a higher level of math for my grade?) in my schedule and I don’t entirely want to cut out STEM but I’m also really interested in things like Public Speaking.
Hi!
Go for things you’re most interested in and try them out (esp since you’re a freshman)!! I didn’t develop a true interest until the summer going into my junior year (which is now lol). Remember that once you find something that truly interests you, stick with it and develop and cater to that interest as much as you can. STEM isn’t better than government or gov better than STEM. It’s all about the actions you take in regards to whatever you choose.
Check out all the interest/1st meetings at the beginning of the year! Those won’t require a commitment, and hopefully you’ll find some that you like Ask the teacher and current members any questions you can think of.
As an adult, let me tell you that HS is a great time to try many things. Don’t do eveyrthing “just for college”…do it because you like it or you are interested in it. There will be a million STEM types in STEM CLubs, but not so many great at public speaking. Debate will be a skill that you can use in any career. Explore many things and see what sticks.
