Look at the website for each college, they each have their own theme. Revelle and Roosevelt are the harder ones since they require extra GEs compared to the other schools. You rank each one 1-6, 1 being the top priority college that you want to enter and 6 being the bottom priority. People usually always get into their 1st or 2nd choice that they ranked.

You should look into each one and see which one fits you best ^^. You shouldn’t let others decide for you ;D Good luck on your choices.

This website helped me.

Thanks very much
I have another question
I heared of that different colleges have different GEs or core course, and what is that?
I have finished my GE courses in ccc, why should I take this course in UCSD? Im confused…

Yeah if you look at the UCSD website pertaining to the six colleges you will find that each college has its own set of requirements on top of the general education classes that you took in cc. Most of your general education will be completed after completing the IGETC at cc but you will still have to take a few different classes depending on which of the 6 colleges you choose.

As an applied math major, you’re school is gonna be super tough. I would highly recommend you to choose either muir or warren college as your first and second choice (they have the “easiest” and least amount of ge’s which will let you focus on your major).

Avoid erc and revelle at all costs (the most ge’s); revelle actually isn’t that bad if you’re a science major but its not as practical as warren or muir. If i were you i would do this: 1. warren, 2. muir, 3. marshall, 4. sixth, 5. revelle, 6. erc

I have warren and muir for 1st and 2nd respectively

^ I too have Warren and Muir as my top two. From my friends who attend UCSD, these seem to be by and large the two out of the six everyone recommends.

They have the easiest and least amount (only 2) ge’s. However I hear that the muir writing class is brutal… But yeah if you’re doing any science or engineering major, pick warren or muir!

i picked warren as my first! i heard ERC was brutal as well revelle has different requirements for GEs

This thread is also very helpful, especially for those who will have completed IGETC by next spring: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/922742-general-education-requirements-6-ucsd-colleges.html

Pick the ones that don’t require you to do any more GEs. The whole point of going to CC was to get the GEs done.

goingmeta: UCSD has there own GE requirements that can only be satisfied at UCSD.

Keep in mind that Revelle isn’t that bad if you’re a science major because it requires you to do the calc series 1-3 (which you have to do anyways)… However you also have to do a science series, writing courses, and a foreign language (i think)…

I’m pretty sure you satisfy (at least) Warren’s GE with IGETC.

Gee, look what it says:

http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/UgrdPol.html#igetc

"Completion of the Intersegmental General-Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) will permit a student to transfer from a community college to a campus in the University of California system without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division, general-education courses.
…

IGETC is applicable at Earl Warren, Sixth, Thurgood Marshall, and John Muir colleges only.

…

Revelle students must also complete the remainder of the college’s requirements. Students at Eleanor Roosevelt College must complete three academic quarters of the “Making of the Modern World” sequence in addition to the IGETC requirements. They must also complete the remainder of the college’s general-education requirements."

goingmeta: If that’s the case about Warren, I hate my life for choosing sixth… eff bombs…

I still don’t understand the six colleges stuff…I thought all transfers lived in the village? Confusing :s

For housing, freshman get placed into dorms at their respective colleges, transfers get placed into the Village.

The real difference for the six colleges for transfer students is going to be the GEs you have to complete after you transfer. Each college has their own focus for their GE curriculum and while IGETC satisfies a large portion of your GE requirements, it doesn’t satisfy all of them like is the case at most of the other UCs. So after you transfer you’ll have a handful of college-specific GE requirements that you’ll have to complete in addition to your upper division major requirements to graduate. There are also different clubs, organizations, and events held by the respective colleges that you can join in addition to ones that are campus wide. Really though the important difference is GEs.

Ah okay. That makes sense. Thanks a lot!
