How to deal with NYU debt?

Hi all,

First off, Merry Xmas eve and I hope you guys are enjoying the holidays!

My question is directed towards current NYU students (or parents), preferably those that are in Stern and those that are middle class, how do you guys deal with debt? As an applicant, I am kind of worried about the tuition cost of NYU (as I'm sure others are) and if it's worth it or not. I have a younger brother and my parents have other things to pay for too so I don't want to put them under too much financial duress. My family is middle class with a gross income of about 160K a year. If I do go to NYU, it will be NYU Stern as that is what I am applying for. Is the price tag worth it? If so, how do you deal with 200K in debt with very little financial aid? Please offer advice and tips.

Thank you!

P.S. I know asking for chances doesn't really help but I'm curious, I have a 95.17 weighted GPA out of a 100 with 5 AP classes in total (for my senior year, it's calc BC, Statistics, and Computer Science) and the rest honors. my best SAT scores are : CR- 720, M-760, W-690
Biology M - 720, Math II - 770. I got 5's on AP bio and AP calc AB last year. I have a lot of EC's but the things I'm proud of are being Vice President of Fundraising for NHS and placing 8th overall in the state conference for DECA in the Business Finance Series (in NJ). So what are my approximate chances of getting into Stern?

Don’t go to NYU if you can’t afford it… Or you could always go to a cheaper and easier school first and transfer in.

Apply first. See what they offer you in financial aid, talk with your family about what they can afford a year, try to get outside scholarships. Analyze all of that and see if NYU fits the budget. If not go with other cheaper options.
