Any ideas on why you took the test you did? I’ve taken a bunch of diagnostic tests and most say do ACT. However I took the Princenton ACT just the english and math and got a 23. I should have put more time into it but now im looking into SAT? Which one should I take?
Well I took the ACT because it was paid for by my state, but the general strategy is to take both (practice tests, maybe more than 1 of each), see which you did best on, study for that one.
Thank you! Im taking a practice sat tomorow and act after that so Ill post the scores then. Thanks!
@ManaManaWegi is pretty much right. You should definitely see where you perform the best and use it to your advantage. Some additional things to note before you consider which one is for you:
- ACT is more strict on time
- ACT tests knowledge you've learned in class. The new SAT is starting to follow a similar path but still tests you mainly on your test-taking strategies. In other words, 'shortcuts' work better on the SAT than ACT. (A shortcut would be something like backsolving or guestimating answers. This wouldn't be practical on the ACT since you'd be using more advanced math formulas, etc).
- In my opinion, the content of the ACT is less tricky and your only problem will be time management. The SAT has more tricky questions but doesn't give you any stress for time.
I got a 2300 on my first SAT (didn’t retake), and was planning to take the ACT but kept getting around low 30s on the practices and decided it wasn’t worth it.
I took a Practice ACT and got a 27 composite overall, and on the SAT I got a 1010. Which one should I study for in your opinion?
@cheesemage45
ACT for sure. Your 27 equates to about 1290 on the new SAT. Was the practice ACT official?
yes I took one out of the real act 3rd edition book
