I have two brothers, one who is currently a freshman and another who is in 6th grade. Right now, I'm most worried about the freshman but this should help the 6th grader too.
Here's my problem:
My freshman brother is receiving terrible grades in most of his classes due largely to his indifference and inability to study/study well. This never happened before. During his junior high and elementary days, he always got good grades (often all A's). Except that even during then he never really studied or tried either. Junior High was just too easy for him and he didn't really need to put in any effort to receive good grades. Now that he's in High School and taking AP and PAP classes which actually requires him to put in some effort and study, he's struggling. When I tell him to study for a test he says he doesn't know how to. I can understand this because this happened to me too. But I always had the common sense to put in just enough effort to get by, though not really excelling. When I decided that I wanted to actually try and do my best, I struggled because I never really learned how to "study". I didn't know what I was supposed to do with the reviews that my teachers gave out to me after I filled them out or what I was supposed to do with the notes I did in class. I am now a senior and I did well, though I wish I could have done better. I don't want the same thing happening to him. I fear that the same thing might happen to my brother who's in 6th grade. He's also excelling right now and receives straight A's but he never even studies at home. He does most of his homework in school and therefore he doesn't do anything at home. This will, of course, not work when he gets to High School and I want him to learn how to study before it's too late.
Can anybody help?
